Wind power projects 1.5b Potential investments to hit for 800mw: Zubair

Chai­rman Board of Investment Mohammad Zubair has said that the government has an a­m­bitious target of having at least 5% of the total power ge­n­eration of the country that is 9700 MW through alternative / renewable energy by 2030.

Chairman BOI stated this during a meeting whit Mathew Bartley, Managing Director of M/s Nexif who called on him here on Thursday.

Bartley briefed Chairman BOI that, the company is already active in Pakistan’s power sector having made an investment for infra Co Asia (subsidiary manager) in a 50% interest in Metro 50MW wind project and 49% interest in the adjacent Gul Ahmed 50MW wind project.

Chairman BOI appraised the delegation that the GoP has initiated an extensive wind energy program to meet the increasing energy demand and to introduce Renewable Ene­rgy technologies in the country. A member of the delegation informed Chairman BOI that investment worth 1.5 Billion is ready for the production of 800 MW. Chairman BOI assured him for the support of the government to mat­ure this potential investment.

Bartley said that Our team which has extensive international power experience working for multinational power companies, is working with Gul Ahmed Group in implementing these 2 projects. The Metro project is well advanced and scheduled to commence by year end. The Gul Ahmed project is ready to follow the footsteps of Metro project next year.

He further said that the Nexif is also interested for implementation of large scale coal fired power generation project in Pakistan.
