Small farmers to get solar energy tubewells: Shahbaz

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that there is a vast scope of generation of energy from biogas in Punjab and the provincial government is evolving a comprehensive policy under which biogas plants will be set up in villages while efforts are also being made for operating tube wells with biogas.

He was presiding over a briefing meeting on biogas plants at Model Town on Friday. Shahbaz sought a comprehensive plan immediately for setting up biogas plants so that it could be implemented as early as possible because energy crisis had caused an irreparable loss to agriculture. He said the PML-N government was taking various measures for providing relief to the small cultivators. He said a programme had also been chalked out for providing solar energy tube-wells to small farmers.

The chief minister said a practicable project should be evolved regarding establishment of biogas plants as the government wanted to provide the facility to the maximum number of small farmers while subsidy would also be provided by the government for the purpose.

The CM was given a detailed briefing by the experts of Pakistan Domestic Biogas Programme and Agriculture University Faisalabad on biogas plants.Provincial Minister for Energy Ch Sher Ali Khan, Special Assistant Arshad Jutt, Chairman Planning & Development and experts were present.
