Shortfall hits 3,900MW

Power shortfall on Thursday again reached to 3,900MW following the total generation was recorded as 12,100MW against the demand of16,000MW at 0900 hours, it has learnt.

Well-laced sources, while quoting a handout issued here on Thursday by National Transmission and Dispatch Company Limited (NTDC), said that country’s power shortfall has again jumped to 3,900MW from 3,450MW as the total generation was recorded as 12,100MW against the demand of16,000MW at 0900 hours.

The sources also said that the hydroelectric generation stood at 4,290MW, thermal 1,660 and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) 6,150 MW.

The masses are bearing heavy brunt of unscheduled power outages coupled with sky rocketing power tariff for a long time. At present, the masses of urban centers are facing 10-12 hours unannounced power loadshedding while the duration of loadshedding in rural areas is as much as 14-16 hours.
