Sherpao suggests CCI meeting on energy crisis

Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said that the government should take all the political parties into confidence on ways to address the energy crisis and introduce a realistic plan to overcome this problem as it has brought routine life to a virtual standstill.

He said in a statement on Wednesday that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister should ask the federal government to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to find ways and means to address the energy crisis and remove the grievances of people.

“The government should have taken solid steps to reduce the duration of power loadshedding during Sehr, Iftar and Taraveeh timings,” he said and added that cosmetic steps such as removing officials from their posts would not serve the purpose. Mr Sherpao said that it was duty of the government to take concrete steps to address the issue of power loadshedding and provide relief to the people facing prolonged outages sing long.

He noted that only the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were protesting against power outages, which showed that the residents were facing serious problems.

The QWP chief said the measures taken by the government to retire the circular debt had also failed to produce positive results.

He said that the federal government had failed to increase power generation to meet the electricity shortfall in the country.

He said that the Pesco chief executive should inform the people through media of the electricity production and requirement of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
