Power generation from alternative sources on the cards: Shahbaz

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the Punjab government will take short, medium and long term measures for controlling the energy crisis and besides traditional methods, power will be generated through alternative sources as well.

He said that its good that the private sector was willing to cooperate with the government in overcoming energy shortage. He said launching of energy generation projects from solar power, biomass, biogas and coal with the cooperation of private sector was being considered.

Shahbaz was talking to a representative delegation of solar energy company, Nizam Group, at the Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday.

He said Pakistan was facing a serious energy crisis and the PML-N government was striving for generation of power from alternative sources. He said a programme had been evolved to give solar energy-operated tube-wells to small farmers and this step would promote agriculture in the province. He said former rulers had displayed criminal negligence by wasting five years of the nation while the PML-N government would fulfill its promise of resolving energy crisis at any cost.

Usman Ahmed and Abdullah Umar of the Nizam Group gave a briefing to the chief minister on the solar energy.

Punjab Energy Minister Ch Sher Ali Khan and Secretary Energy Usman Bajwa were also present.
