Many countries show interest in energy sector: Asif

Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif Sunday said that many countries including Turkey, Denmark, America etc had shown interest to cooperate in energy sector with Pakistan. He said that opportunities had been offered to the countries in energy sector. Talking to media, he said that Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had emphasized on trade rather than aid during meeting with different heads of states.

He said that Pakistani premier forcefully reminded the United Nations (UN) to play its vital role to resolve the issue of Kashmir in accordance with resolution of 1948. He said that government was taking serious steps for keeping peace in the region, adding that dialogue offer to the Taliban should not be considered as weakness of the government. He said that maintaining peace in the country was top priority of the government.

He said that Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was committed to develop friendly relations with the neighboring countries. Three dams planned to overcome power shortage: The Ministry of Water and Power is planning to construct three dams to meet energy requirements of the country. Among these dams, Mohmand (Munda) dam will be constructed at the river swat and work on its detail engineering design was continuing and will be completed in two years and construction work be completed in seven years.

The Bara dam will be constructed at the river Bara Khyber Agency FATA. The work on its detail engineering designing was underway and after completion, then tender will be floated to construct this dam in four years. The Tank Zam dam will be constructed at river Tank Zam near Hanas Tangi Dera Ismail Khan Khyber Pukhthunkhaw.
