Manpower shortage hurdle in solar energy growth

Lack of manpower in the national solar industry is a big hurdle in solar energy growth in the country. These views were expressed by Renewable and Alternate Energy Association (RAEA) Punjab chapter chairman Engineer Faiz Muhammad Bhutta while talking to APP here on Thursday. He urged technical colleges, universities and vocational institutes to include solar energy as a permanent subject and said that degrees and certificates should be issued in solar energy to fulfil the requirements of the industry.

He requested the government to start solar energy training programmes to encourage the sector, adding that already running programmes should be sponsored by the government so that solar energy experts could be produced.

Bhutta said the RAEA had been providing solar energy training for the last three years and an agreement in this regard had been matured with Germen Development Company. He said training programmes under the REAE in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi were ongoing.
