KP govt taking steps to overcome energy crisis: CM

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak Tuesday said the provincial government was working on emergency basis to overcome the energy crisis by focusing on hydel power generation.

Addressing a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to hand over two mini-hydel power stations to the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) in Swat, the chief minister said the energy policy of the provincial government was aimed at strengthening the economy of the province by increasing power generation capacity and creating maximum employment opportunities.

It is worth mentioning that Ashuran and Kalam Power stations were non-functional due to some technical reasons. The provincial government had in principle decided to hand over these stations to the SRSP so that they could be made operational, an official handout said.

Provincial Minister for Culture Mehmood Khan, MPA Jaffar Shah, Mohibullah, government officials, representatives of SRSP, including Shoaib Sultan Khan, Mrs Munawar Humayun, Masoodul Mulk and others were also present on the occasion.Pakhtunkhwa Hydel Development Organisation (PHYDO) Bahadur Shah briefed the chief minister about the production capacity of the power stations.
