Govt trying to generate maximum power: Minister

PROVINCIAL Minister for Energy and Mines Ch. Sher Ali has said the government is trying to generate maximum power within the shortest possible time along with taking legal action without any discrimination against the electricity thieves.

This was said by the minister during a briefing given by the Chinese National Electric Engineering Company Ltd regarding thermal and hydropower projects.

Provincial Minister Ch. Sher Ali said the electricity thieves are not well wisher of the country. He said according to the Chief Minister Punjab’s directions we are utilising all present resources for the energy production with the thermal, coal, solar and hydropower projects.

He said with the latest technology and expert people, this will become advantageous for us after the completion of Taunsa Barrage Project which comprises of 120 MWs along with the establishing of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park at Cholistan, and the production of power with the beg as at sugar mills. He said another power park will be established at Gaddani at a cost of 60 billion from where we will get 5000 MW power with coal. He said 1000 MW power will be generated at sugar mills.

He said for the production of energy the government is extending maximum cooperation and assistance to foreign companies. He said this is a need of hour to stop power theft and wasting of the electricity. He added that mutual cooperation between the government and the public will bring positive results in this regard. He said initially all streetlights are converting to solar energy at district level and after that home appliances will be converted to solar also.

He said we are trying to provide uninterrupted power for the development of the country and we will prove ourselves with practical measures not only with the hollow slogans. On this occasion, Commercial Manager China National Electric Engineering Company Ltd Daniel Tian briefed to the minister along with the participants of briefing regarding their hydro and thermal power projects’ details along with the company introduction, performance and planning. Provincial Minister assured them of their maximum cooperation by the energy department and the government of the Punjab also. Among others, Commercial Manager Daniel Tian along with former Provincial Minister Ch. Ijaz Shafi, Azmat Niazi and others were also present in the briefing.
