GE puts spotlight on LED lighting to drive energy efficiencies

General Electric (GE) Pakistan’s CEO and President Sarim Sheikh on Thursday said “GE is committed to supporting Pakistan in its development vision, particularly in driving energy sector efficiencies.

Over the years, we have established strong partnerships in bringing innovative solutions that help meet the growing demand for power in the country. With the seminar we are underlining the importance of using LED lighting solutions that can contribute not only to saving energy but also conserving our environment. I thank the Commissioner Pakistan office for their support.”

Robert Baranyi, Systems Manager of GE Lighting, explained that lighting accounts for nearly 20 per cent of all power usage around the world. “Upto 75 per cent of the energy usage can be saved by switching to energy-efficient LED lighting systems, a technology that was pioneered by GE. Our LED solutions save energy and are also lead and mercury free, which plays a key role in driving environmental sustainability. GE Lighting’s newest product ranges have the potential to contribute to up to 50 per cent in energy cost savings.”

LEDs also include a long useful life of up to 50,000 hours, minimized maintenance and related costs and excellent low temperature performance. In roadway lighting, LEDs deliver the added advantage of better visual conditions with the color characteristics of LEDs creating better object recognition and visual results.

This is also beneficial for other applications such as for parking lots, where the footage is clearer for security cameras, thus promoting safety.
