First solar panel assembly plant inaugurated

Punjab Minister for Mineral Development and Energy Choudhary Sher Ali has said the Punjab government will ink an MoU with a Chinese company on July 25 to establish Pakistan’s first Solar Park near Lahore on 5,000 acres of land which will help reduce the shortfall of energy upon its completion.

He was speaking to the participants of inauguration ceremony of Pakistan’s first solar panel assembly plant held here on Monday which was organised by TESLA Industries. Chief Executive Officer of TESLA Aamir Hussain, Head of Alternative Energy Development Board of Pakistan Dr. Basharat Hassan, President of Islamabad Chamber Zafar Bakhtawari, renowned architect Khalid Abdul Rehman, Rana Adeel, GM TESLA PV Mubarak Hussain and others were present on this occasion.

Choudhary Sher Ali further said some 43 wind energy projects were under construction in Punjab aimed at reducing the energy crisis at the earliest.

He admired the efforts of TESLA PV to make the country self-sufficient in manufacturing solar penal and said the government would extend every possible facility to the investor in solar energy sector. He said the sun poured 99.9 per cent more energy on earth than the whole world’s requirements of electricity. “All developed nations have advanced in getting electricity from sun and they were making progress through this natural source of energy.” He added.

Ch. Sher Ali said the PML-N government was eager to adopt every possible source of energy to combat the present energy crises in the country. He laid emphasis on investors to come forward and invest in energy sector where they would be given full cooperation from government.

While addressing on this occasion, CEO TESLA PV Amir Hussain said solar panel manufacturing plant had capacity of 4 MW per year and would be increased to 10 MW in the year 2014. “Local manufacturing of these panels will not only reduce the prices of the solar systems but will also make possible for solar users to buy A grade quality Mono and Poly panels. It will also help reduce the foreign exchange being spent in import of solar panels from other countries,” he added saying more Tesla-PV will be producing 100, 150, 200, 250 watt Mono and Poly Solar panels and will be available countrywide from Monday.

Later on, the minister inaugurated the solar panel assembly plant and assured the industry of full cooperation of government in this sector.
