The Federal Government has prepared a new energy policy for the country which seeks to increase production to 26,800 Mega Watts (MW) in three years.

The energy policy will be presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on June 27, while provinces will be taken into confidence on June 29 during the meeting of the Council of Common Interest (CCI).

According to the policy, electricity generation in the country will be increased from 12,200 MW to 26,800 MW in the next three years. The policy will also seek to reduce the production cost by 30 percent along with eliminating load shedding.

The policy consists of four main points:

1.Eliminating the demand and supply gap

2.Providing low cost electricity to consumers

3.Cracking down on electricity theft

4.Attracting investment in the energy sector
