Energy future

The new PML-N government has to face huge challenges, the energy crisis being the most serious. Electricity shortfall can be met considerably if the rivers passing through Azad Jammu and Kashmir are used to generate power. Apart from accelerating the pace of work on the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project, the new government must work on run-of-the-river projects on the Neelam and Poonch rivers.

Over 2000MW of cheap electricity can be produced if a dozen run-of-the-river-projects are established on these rivers. Early completion of these projects can surely give us some relief since their feasibility studies have been carried out and some ground work has also been undertaken.
