Diamer-Bhasha Dam to resolve energy crisis permanently

The Diamer-Bhasha Dam will resolve energy crisis on permanent basis and ensure food and water security, besides increasing cultivable lands.

An official of Wapda said that the people would enjoy the benefits of this dam. He said Diamer-Bhasha Dam, the third largest water reservoir in the country having the capacity of producing 4,500 megawatts of electricity will irrigate thousands of acres agricultural land and help resolve energy crisis.

To a question, he said that the dam will also prolong the life of Tarbela Dam by 35 years adding that the dam will have the capacity to store 6.4 million square feet water.

To another question, he said the Diamer-Bhasha Dam is a milestone in the development of energy sector in the country. Diamir Bhasha dam is being built over Indus River some 40 kilometres west of Chilas in Gilgit-Baltistan, he said.

He said Diamer-Bhasha Dam would produce cheap hydro energy and also help increase the agricultural produce through enhanced water availability for the crops.
