Diamer Bhasha Dam economic lifeline of country

The Diamer Bhasha Dam project is a “life-line”for the national economy, which would help meet country’s future agricultural and power requirements. An official of the ministry of water and power said the Dam had three important objectives, which include flood-mitigation, power generation and storage of water. He said the dam on River Indus would enhance life of the Tarbela Dam by over 35 years. Answering another question, he said the gigantic project would generate 4,500 MW of electricity and store over 8 million acre feet (MAF) of water to meet the country’s growing power and irrigation needs.
