Crisis prevails despite rise in hydel power generation

Despite abundance of water in dams and increase in hydel power generation, energy crisis could not be overcome and the electricity shortfall reached 2900 megawatts on Thursday.

It should be mentioned that surge in inflow of water in dams has boosted hydel power generation by 6,250 megawatts but yet the challenge to meet energy requirements is a question mark.

Spokesman National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC) said that about 13,500 megawatts electricity is being generated in the country while its consumption is 16,400 megawatts.

Due to shortfall, rural as well as urban areas are bound to face load shedding for more than 10 and seven hours respectively.
