Argentine keen to promote cooperation in energy projects

Ambassador of Republic of Argentine Rodolfo J. Martin Saravia called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Monday and shared views on the matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations and cooperation in energy sector.

Argentinean Ambassador expressed his desire to promote cooperation with Pakistan in energy projects including hydel and wind power besides enhancing bilateral relations.

Federal Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Additional Chief Secretary Energy, Vice Chairman Punjab Investment Board and office-bearers of Argentinean Company IMPSA were also present on the occasion. In his talks with the Ambassador, Chief Minister welcomed the offer of cooperation in energy sector by Argentine. He also highlighted the vast opportunities exist in Punjab for launching small hydel projects and invited the Argentinean company to these projects wherein the Punjab government is extending all possible cooperation.

Separately, a high level delegation of an international Chinese company, Shanghai Electric Group, led by its Vice Presidents Lv Yachen and Cheng Yuan met the Chief Minister on Monday and discussed matters regarding cooperation in energy projects in Pakistan. Shanghai Electric Group expressed interest in investment in power sector in Punjab and the Chief Minister assured it maximum cooperation of his government.

Chairman Universal Metal Corporation Japan Haseeb Rehman, Chairman Nishat Group Mian Muhammad Mansha, Director Shanghai Electric Zhang Xing, Assistant Director Zhao Hui, and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

The CM said that Pakistan and China are bound together in strong ties of friendship and their economic relations are strengthening. He said that China has extended maximum help to Pakistan in every hour of need. He said that Pakistan is facing serious energy crisis and the government is taking speedy measures for coping this problem.

Lv Yachen said that his company wants to invest in energy sector in Punjab and is also interested in coal-based projects in the province.
