Accord with Chinese firm for solar energy to be finalised soon: CM

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the maximum resources are being utilised for controlling the energy crisis as electricity is essential for strengthening of economy and development of the country.

He said the government was attaching top priority to resolving energy problem and local and foreign investors were being encouraged in this regard. He was talking to a delegation of prominent Chinese company, Norinco International, at the Chief Minister’s Office here on Monday.

Shahbaz said China was a trusted friend of Pakistan and had played a commendable role in its development. He said the Chinese companies were also extending vigorous cooperation in resolving energy crisis and agreements had been signed with several Chinese companies in the sector of coal and solar energy. He welcomed the offer of the Norinco International of setting up solar power plant and said the agreement would soon be given a final shape in this regard.

The CM said the Norinco International should visit Cholistan for considering setting up a solar energy project of 1,000 megawatt in the area and financial model of implementation of the agreement should also be prepared.

The delegation of the company expressed willingness for investment in energy sector in Pakistan and said that the company was ready to help Pakistan in overcoming shortage of electricity. The delegation also appreciated the measures taken by the CM for the development of the province and observed that the projects completed in Punjab, especially in the provincial metropolis, had provided relief to the masses while traffic system had also improved. The delegation said that it wanted cooperation in energy sector due to transparent policies of Punjab government.

Chinese delegation: A delegation of Chinese solar company, TBEA, met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Monday. Talking to the delegation, the CM said there were vast opportunities of generation of solar energy in Punjab. He said controlling of the problem of shortage of electricity was essential for industrial activities and strengthening of the economy.
