USAID launches energy sector internship programme

The United States Agency for International Developmentā€™s (USAID) Energy Policy Project has initiated a nationwide internship programme for recent university and technical school graduates to build the human capacity of the energy sector and a develop a comprehensive understanding about the mechanics of the energy sector among the younger generation, says a press release.

Aimed at young graduates between the ages of 19 and 25 years, the internship programme offers learning opportunities across a broad array of sectors in different power and energy organisations. Under the programme, more than 100 motivated graduates will be selected and placed at relevant public and private energy sector organisations for a period of six months. Preference will be given to deserving graduates belonging to less developed areas and having a low income background.

This programme aims to include Pakistanis from remote parts of the country in the development process. The performance of participants will be regularly monitored to ensure the programme is a quality experience.

The internship will allow these young graduates to gain hands on experience and to enrich the skills needed to succeed at the workplace.

Organisations and universities partnering in the Energy Sector Internship Programme are spread across Pakistan – KPK, South Punjab, Interior Sindh and Balochistan. The Energy Policy Project is a USAID funded multi-year effort to increase power generation, decrease losses and increase cost recovery by investing in selected energy infrastructure projects.
