The government is likely to increase the price of petrol by Rs 6.82 per litre from September 17. The new price of petrol will be Rs 106.70 per litre. The price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will also be raised by Rs 6.20 per kg.

According to official sources, the oil marketing companies have sent a summary to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources recommending the rise in price of motor spirit (petrol), keeping in view the increase in the crude oil price that was registered last week in the global market.

The price of high octane blending component (HOBC) will increase by Rs 1.50 per litre and that of kerosene oil will go up by Rs 0.62 per litre. However, oil marketing companies have worked out a reduction in the price of high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 1.74 per litre and of light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs 0.14 per litre.

With the proposed adjustments in the prices of POL for the next week, the new price of HOBC will stand at 137.96 per litre, kerosene oil at Rs 104.68 per litre, HSD at Rs 113.78 per litre and LDO at Rs 99.27 per litre.

The government had reduced the price of petrol by Rs4.65 per litre and CNG by Rs4.27 per kg from September 10 but under the weekly POL prices review mechanism, the relief in prices of petrol and CNG will be taken back and prices of both products will be raised.
