Nepra rejects move to increase power tariff by 22pc

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has rejected a move initiated by the ministry of water and power to seek 22 percent increase in the power tariff, a senior official told The News.

The ministry has issued new guidelines to Nepra asking for implementation of enhancing the limit for lifeline consumers from 50 to 100 units.

The energy conference recently held in Lahore had recommended to the ministry of water and power to increase the limit, but Nepra has rejected the move, arguing that the power consumers using slightly more than 100 units will be deprived the slab benefit of Rs5.79 per unit.
