LCCI urges govt to proactively deal with energy crisis

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has appealed to the government to proactively deal with the ongoing energy crisis to avert industrial closures and resultant economic downturn, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that the power shortage had not only caused unrest among businessmen but it had also deprived the country of two percent of the much needed GDP with an impact of Rs52 billion per annum on revenue generation. He further added that if seriousness is not shown to address the crisis, it is not only industrial production but also economic activity that will come to a grinding halt. Iftikhar also urged the government to ensure equal electricity supply throughout the country as Punjab is the worst hit and the investment has impeded in the province.
