KESC, ABAD sign accord on energy conservation

The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), in line with its vision to encourage energy conservation by maximizing the usage of natural light during daytime and avoiding the undue wastage of electricity; signed a memorandum of understanding with the Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) on Monday.

KESC and ABAD have agreed to undertake joint measures to ensure energy conservation and under the agreement KESC would provide the builders with technical expertise and guidelines for developing energy efficient architecture in their future projects.

The idea is to increase the number of “green buildings” that would require less energy on sustainable basis, which is the need of the hour under the current circumstances of increased demand pressures on energy resources.

The KESC energy conservation team had earlier held interactive session with the ABAD office bearers and members and gave them multiple briefings on the energy conservation cause and how it could be addressed through the forum of builders and developers to yield greater magnitude of results.

KESC has been making sustained efforts on this front by engaging public participation and now also partnering with the architects, builders and developers for furthering the cause. Given the energy crisis in Pakistan, KESC gives immense importance to energy conservation and efficiency as it aids in the reduction of energy consumption and energy demand per capita, offsetting the growth in energy supply needed to keep up with rising population growth in its licensed territory.

KESC, being conscious of its responsibility towards its Consumers, stakeholders and operating environment, also knows that reducing emissions is an important role that needs to play towards lessening the impact on the climate change.

Hence being cognizant of its corporate social responsibility, KESC aims at increasing awareness on the energy conservation front – that every unit of electricity conserved actually reduces the environmental impact.
