Immediate implementation of power projects urged

Khurram Sayeed, Director Pak-Iran Business Council and Chief Executive, Iran-Pak Wind Power (Pvt) Ltd, has said that immediate implementation of the 100MW, 1,000MW projects and the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline would greatly benefit Pakistan and help promote bilateral investment, a statement said.

“All these should be discussed in the joint ministerial commission and such decisions need implementation in order to bring value to the commission,” he said, while speaking at a seminar, “To promote bilateral relationships between Pakistan and Iran”, organised by the Pakistan-Iran Friendship Association recently at the Iran Consulate Karachi. He emphasised for trade with Iran in the local currency, immediate start of barter trade and opening of Iranian bank branches in Pakistan to facilitate trade between the two countries, it said.

Sayeed said that the sanctions have hurt the bilateral trade between the two countries and has fallen to $450 million from $1.2 billion in 2009/10.
