Govt committed to building Bhasha Dam

The PPP government is committed to early complete Diamer-Bhasha Dam that can generate 4,500MW of cheap hydle electricity and provide over six million acre feet of water for agriculture, said senior PPP leader from Lahore Munir Ahmed Khan.

In an interaction with media, Munir Ahmed Khan said the dam would be completed with or without foreign funding. He said for this reason, PPP had the project approved from the ECNEC in 2009. He said that even the whole nation would share and contribute for the Bhasha Dam as they were contributing for Neelam Jhelum project. This is the major mega project after Pakistan Steel Mills in which the cost of project is 12 Billion US$ in the last 25 years. The Steel Mills was also build by a PPP government.

President Zardari believed the project of Bhatia Dam is critical to overcome energy requirements and irrigation.
