E&P companies make significant oil, gas discoveries

The exploration and production (E&P) companies have been successful in discovering new hydrocarbon reserves that will help bridge the gap between the prevailing demand and supply gap, said a statement, quoting Dr Asim Hussain, adviser to the prime minister on petroleum and natural resources, as saying.

Encouraged with the steps taken by the ministry of petroleum and natural resources to enhance indigenous production, the E&P companies have made reasonable discoveries during 2012, he said.

According to the statement issued by the ministry, United Energy Pakistan Limited has made discoveries in their Badin Blocs that include Gharo-1 oil and gas discovery in July, which is producing 520 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 0.03 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) gas, Mohano-1 discovery in February, which is producing 300BOPD and 0.03MMCFD gas, Pir Apan-1 discovery made in March, producing 375BOPD and 18MMCFD gas, Piraro Deep-1 discovery made in April, which is producing 483BOPD and 15.2MMCFD gas, Nurpur Deep-1 gas discovery in May, producing 4.5MMCFD gas, Mulaki-1 oil and gas discovery in July, which is producing 25BOPD and seven MMCFD gas, Shekhano-1 discovery made in August that is producing 84BOPD and around 17MMCFD gas. Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made Suleman-1 gas discovery in March (Khewari Bloc), which is expected to produce 20MMCFD of gas. Moreover, the oil and gas discoveries were made by OGDCL in their Nashpa-2 and Nashpa-3 (appraisal wells). Nashpa-2 is expected to produce around 3,370BOPD and 11MMCFD gas, whereas Nashpa-3 is expected to produce 3,165BOPD and 14.35MMCFD gas, said the statement.
