Energy sector

Saudi Arabia has shown interest in investing in Pakistan’s energy sector, especially in construction of dams and water reservoirs. Though the importance of dams in generating electricity cannot be questioned, it’s a long-term solution to our power crisis. We need an immediate solution to the problem. The cost of imported oil, used by our independent power producers, to generate electricity stands at $15 billion per year.

It is time to reduce our dependence on costly electricity generated by oil and switch over to coal-produced electricity. Our country is blessed with huge deposits of coal which can be used to produce electricity through the underground coal gasification process. The government should request the Saudi rulers to fund this project.
