‘Electricity from Thar coal to end power crisis’

Member Science and Technology Planning Commission of Pakistan Dr Samar Mubarkmand has said that the country was rich in coal reserves, the fourth largest in the world with 175 million tones of the ore.Addressing the presidents of chambers of commerce and industry at SCCI here on Saturday, he said, “We can produce gas and energy through underground coal gasification to meet the industrial and domestic needs.” The government had approved a 100 megawatt project and the Thar Coal Board had already decided to attract private sector to show “Expression of Interest (EOI) in the project, he said.
