Efforts under way to ensure minimum loadshedding in Ramazan: Mukhtar

Federal Water and Power Minister Ahmed Mukhtar on sday said efforts were underway to ensure that no or minimum load shedding is carried out in the holy month of Ramazan but claimed that no load shedding would be carried out at Sehar and Iftar timings.

Talking to newsmen at Karachi Airport this morning, he said when assumed the charge of water and power ministry, the electricity shortfall was 8,000MW, which has reduced to half at the moment, and the electricity was generated by utilising the existing generation capacity.

“We are making more efforts to generate as many electricity as possible from the existing power facilities. We are trying not to shed load anywhere in the country in the month of Ramazan or at least at Sehar and Iftar timings,” he added.

Ahmed Mukhtar claimed that currently 14000 MWs of electricity was being generated in the country, which was six thousands MWs more than when he assumed the charge of power ministry.

To a query, he said no decision regarding rental power stations had been taken yet and added that any decision with regard to rental power projects would be taken in view of court orders. He said that the Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) was part of the country’s power network and complaints regarding over-billing and average billing by the KESC would be resolved soon. On the occasion, the power minister said he would not tolerate power theft anywhere in the country.
